Recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are rapidly changing the cybersecurity landscape and increasing both the speed and sophistication of cyber threats. In response, CIRES IT is implementing several changes to better protect research systems, institutional data, and user accounts. CIRES IT is also working closely with University of Colorado Boulder Office of Information Technology to identify, assess, and respond to emerging threats as quickly as possible.
Key changes users can expect include:
- Moving from a primary focus on maximizing uptime during business hours to prioritizing rapid security patching and service restarts when critical vulnerabilities are identified
- Reviewing publicly facing servers and reducing unnecessary services to minimize security risks
- Working directly with specific users and research groups to identify secure solutions that continue to support research needs
- Implementing future enhancements to logins and account security, including expanded Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) across website and devices
These efforts are intended to strengthen CIRES security while continuing to support the important work of our research community.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding and partnership as we adapt to this evolving threat landscape. Please contact CIRES IT at ciresithelp@colorado.edu with any questions.
