January marks halfway point of the Annual Summary of Accomplishments performance cycle. For researchers and university staff, we recommend at least one coaching session per year. Planning, coaching, and evaluation are all important aspects of effective supervision.
Reminders:
- Performance plans are fluid documents, intended to be updated throughout the year.
- The performance period for the Annual Summary of Accomplishments is July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
- Coaching should be regular and can be informal. Coaching guidance from CU Boulder HR can be found on the CU website. Resources include:
- Coaching tips
- A template for a Stay Interview with questions to learn about what motivates employees and the challenges they face.
- A SMART Goals worksheet to help define goals.
Upcoming training to support performance management:
- Stay Interviews: The proactive strategy for retaining employees is on February 4 or April 21 offered by CU Boulder HR.
- Best Practices for Supervisors training is on February 25, from 10 to 11:15 am, presented by CIRES HR. This is recommended for all CIRES supervisors.
- Performance Management training is on March 30, from 2 to 3:30 pm, presented by CU Boulder HR and CIRES HR. This is recommended for all CIRES supervisors and employees.
