We were able to pull ALL of the news items FROM our drupal7 site to our new website, however, concessions had to be made due to a new structure and a new set of tools at our ready when making news content. Below are notes on how to best ‘fully migrate’ / Refactor and or update an existing news item to better work on our new site.

When finessing an already migrated news item you will want to be sure to do the following:

  1. Download the existing ‘migration banner’ from the site to your local machine and then delete this ‘migration banner’ and add the banner into the ‘media’ field.

Please take the alt text and title ( caption ) from the ‘migration banner’ field and use it when adding the media - or - refine this text so it isn’t too lengthy

  1. Move existing body ( exists on the metadata and contacts tab ) text into paragraphs. E.g. if the news has a block of text, an image, then more text it would then be → text block paragraph, image paragraph then text paragraph
  2. Add in a sub title if not present and if needed
  3. Select the ‘news display boilerplate’ as well as the ‘more news’ toggles below the date if they aren’t already selected and if desired.
  4. On the ‘metadata and Contacts’ tab, attach the news item to a person’s profile using the ‘display on profile’ field if that person makes sense ( e.g. Waleed is in the news story, add Waleed as a profile reference )
  5. Add in research interests tags if desired
  6. If the news item itself makes sense to reference a research group / institutional program than can set this with the ‘display on’ field ( e.g. Livneh group news story → display on: Livneh research group. )
  7. Add a map coordinate if desired in the Metadata & Contacts tab if they exist.
  8. Within the ‘summary’ text box, please delete the opening and closing <p> tags
  9. Add in contacts in the ‘footer paragraphs’ as needed ( e.g. whomever is set as contacts on the existing CIRES site news item. If the person doesn’t have a profile on our site, then the ‘contact’ paragraph type would be utilizes that takes in images, title, email, phone, descriptions, etc and can house a lot of information if needed.
